Heavenly Angels Pageants is starting something new this year. As many of you know in Pennsylvania there is a private school called Milton Hershey. Many ladies at this school do not attend their proms due to the fact they cannot afford to get gowns or cocktail type dresses. I went in May to do Hair and Make-up for Free for 6 of the students who attend and was heart broken to hear some girls did not attend because they did not have a dress. Last year Laura let a few of the girls borrow some of her Short Deb shop dresses.
We are doing a gown collection for these young ladies that will enable a lot of them to attend. The gowns/cocktail type dresses will be given to the school and the school will allow the girls to come and use the gowns FREE of charge for the proms.  Once they use the gowns they will be then cleaned and reused again. We are hoping that a lot of dresses are collected and these young ladies will also reap the pleasure of attending their proms.

Dresses do not need to be Expensive Pageant dresses. Matter of fact most of the girls are wearing Deb shop type dresses that at the end of Prom season can be bought for $8 to $15 dollars. The junior prom, which is always held in May, is Lower key and Dresses generally are short. The Senior Prom which is held in June Graduation weekend tends to go more formal.

You may mail Cocktail type Dresses, Prom Dresses to me directly or give them to me at any pageant that I may be attending.

Sizes needed are 00—to Plus sizes. The students that attend the proms are 10th through 12th grade.  These girls come in all shapes and sizes! Please feel free to contact me with any questions that you may have.

Below is some history on the Milton Hershey School: Taken from their website

Today, Milton Hershey School is a cost-free, private, coeducational home and school for children from families of low income, limited resources, and social need. The School is funded by a trust established by Milton S. Hershey and his wife Catherine. Milton Hershey School offers a positive, structured home life year-round and an excellent pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education. Our vision focuses on building character and providing children with the skills necessary to be successful in all aspects of life.

What is Milton Hershey School?

Founded in 1909 by chocolate industrialist Milton S. Hershey and his wife Catherine, Milton Hershey School (MHS) is a home and school located in Hershey, PA. MHS serves children in financial and social need by providing them education, housing, food, medical and psychological health care, recreation opportunities, and clothing with no financial obligation to the family.

Originally, the School was founded to provide care for white orphan boys, and its first class consisted of just 10 students. Today, approximately 1,700 boys and girls of diverse backgrounds are served by the School through its mission: In keeping with Milton and Catherine Hershey's Deed of Trust, Milton Hershey School nurtures and educates children in social and financial need to lead fulfilling and productive lives.

Mr. Hershey once said, "If we helped a hundred children, it would have been all worthwhile." Over ninety years later, Milton Hershey School has more than 8,000 alumni nationwide.

What does the School mean by students of low-income, limited resources, and social need?

To be eligible for enrollment, a child must come from a family of low income. The average total income of a family of three enrolling in August 2004-05 was $13,748. When making selection decisions, MHS also considers the quality of care a child receives in his or her home. If the care is inadequate, the child is considered to be in "social need." Social need may result from a variety of situations faced by the child's primary caregiver, including physical, mental, and emotional health problems; chemical addiction; or incarceration. The School stresses low income, limited resources, social need, and age-appropriate behavior when considering applicants.

School Life: An Environment for Excellence

At Milton Hershey School, students live and learn in small groups with other children their own age. There are three divisions: Elementary for grades pre-Kindergarten through 4, Middle for grades 5-8, and Senior for grades 9-12. Our academic program is designed to prepare each student for further education, the world of work, and personal excellence. The curriculum includes math, language arts, social studies, science, career/technical education, art, music, performing arts, family and consumer science, technology training, spiritual education, character development, and healthy lifestyles.

  • We believe that personal attention and good teacher relationships are central to learning. Classes are small and learning assistance is available for students having difficulty with schoolwork.

  • Older students have more flexibility to shape their curriculum. High school students often participate in co-ops and internships to explore career opportunities.

  • We believe that all students should learn a trade as well as prepare for further education. High school students learn about different career pathways, such as automotive technology, health occupations, graphic communication technologies, computer-aided drafting & design (CADD), construction trades, computer information systems, culinary arts, video production, agriculture & natural resources, and business careers and technologies.

The Future: Where our students go after MHS

Our main goal for all of our students is that they leave the School well prepared to enter society as productive citizens. We want all of our graduates to be good students, but we also want them to be good people, good employees, and responsible members of their communities. Our graduates continue to reflect this ethic and make us proud.
